Omar, thirty-six years
old, a man who has been suffering from a visual disability for ten years, lived
in the town of Maarat before the Kahramanmaraş earthquake occurred on February
6, 2023, which destroyed most of the features of life in the city of Omar and
the surrounding cities, and among the destruction left by this earthquake was
Omar’s house, The man who could not see his house in its best condition, not
even after that, large parts of his house were destroyed as a result of that
earthquake. After the earthquake, and after he found himself without a home or
a place to live, he moved to the city of Azaz, where he lived in an unfinished
house devoid of doors and windows. Those harsh conditions he went through added
many challenges to his life.
“I survived the earthquake after parts of the house were destroyed and the house became uninhabitable. Then I moved to the city of Azaz after the earthquake and lived in an unfinished house with no doors or windows,” Omar says.
Despite his arrival to
a new place, the conditions were very difficult. In addition to the unfinished
house in which he lived, there was no source of livelihood or work for him
after he moved after the earthquake, especially since he had a visual disability,
so they relied on the assistance provided by some humanitarian organizations.
“We purchased a barrel of diesel with the grant
provided by the Sened organization, but it is not sufficient. We hope that
similar grants will be available to overcome life’s difficulties.”
Sened Organization
provided a financial grant to Omar and his family, which helped them provide
some warmth in light of the cold and difficulties they face.
Omar did not give up,
but continued to carry hope and optimism despite the harsh circumstances. His
perseverance and determination reflect a strong will to improve his life and
the life of his family.
